Eastleigh's New CCTV System: Enhancing Safety in the Town Centre (2026)

Eastleigh to switch on upgraded CCTV network in March

Sixteen fresh surveillance cameras will begin operating in Eastleigh town centre by the end of March, replacing an older system currently in use. The new setup represents a modernized approach to monitoring, with the upgrades funded through a £50,000 allocation from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC).

Locations for the cameras were determined by the Hampshire and Isle of Wield Constabulary, and Eastleigh Borough Council will oversee maintenance and ongoing management of the system.

Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones described the cameras as a robust deterrent against anti-social behaviour, shoplifting, and crime in general. Eastleigh district commander Chief Inspector Rachel Noble added that CCTV is essential for both preventing and solving crimes, noting that the project delivers not only continued coverage but a substantial improvement in the town centre’s security.

Ruth Davies of Eastleigh Town Council praised the collaboration, saying the town’s CCTV upgrade demonstrates what can be achieved when people with shared skills, values, and vision work together.

Earlier plans to retire 50 cameras were dropped after feedback from residents and local businesses. Council officials had argued the existing system was costly to maintain, increasingly outdated, and no longer fit for purpose.
