Angela Mastrogiacomo is the founder of Muddy Paw PR, where her artists have seen placement on Alternative Press, Spotify, Noisey, Substream, and more, as well as the Director of Community and Events for Music Launch Co. Her free training ‘Reaching a Wider Audience Without Spending A Dime’ helps emerging artists cut through the noise and get in front of fans and industry influencers in just a few steps. She loves baked goods, a good book, and hanging with her dog Sawyer.

Thinking about what’s in it for the venue can also help you learn how to better sell your band in other marketing arenas. For example, if you’re angling to land a show opening for a bigger band touring through your town, the economy of that inquiry is pretty much in favor of the venue, the band, and their management. If you’re lucky and experiencing some real momentum, maybe you’ll get asked to join the bill, but otherwise, it’s important to know what cards you hold in your hand, and which to play.

Will Kuhn suggests that the rhythms of “Clair de Lune” are so weird because Debussy was trying to notate rubato. That sounds plausible to me. It turns out that when you quantize the piece over beats, it sounds very syncopated and hip. Live and learn.

It is true that vinyl manufacturing can take a little bit of time. And that is actually one of the biggest reasons we’re partnering with as many pressing plants as we can. The production process is more-or-less dependant on the size of the plant and on the unit quantities, so we try to shop around as much as possible for the best deal.

As one commenter pointed out, though, “Clair de Lune” is in 9/8, so of course it’s going to sound strange over a 4/4 beat. However, for me, the 4/4 beat actually makes it sound less strange. I find 9/8 totally unnatural; I can count it deliberately but I haven’t internalized it intuitively. On the other hand, groups of triplets over 4/4 is a common sound in the African-descended American music, and I can feel it just fine.

One of the first standalone units was the EchoSonic, an amplifier with a built-in tape loop for echo effects. It was built by Ray Butts, and it allowed guitar players to use slapback echo, which dominated 1950s rock ‘n’ roll guitar playing, on stage.

If you waited around for inspiration to strike you, you’d have to watch each pitch opportunity, co-write, and artist session pass you by in the dark until that light bulb in your head finally turns on. That’s not a very effective way to make a living off of your craft, is it?

The best way to keep fans engaged is to go back and see them regularly. In past articles I’ve spoke about the importance of building regionally before trying to tour in markets farther away from your home. This is one of the main reasons for that point.

Harmonically, the “majorness” of the V chord is pretty weak, as you can barely hear the major third. And yet the harshness of the iiº chord in the intro is masked by the sweet flute-like tone. Lots of anomalies. Another anomaly is just how fast this song rose in the charts, and how even faster it then dropped, going from #5 to #60 to #91, and then who knows where.

It’s always fun when a city has tons of music history to back up its current status. For Olympia, this means being home to both the riot-grrrl movement, known for their feminist approach to punk, and a few indie labels like K-Records — another Olympia music scene staple. While the main university is the Evergreen State College, it’s also home to South Puget Sound Community College, and it’s only about an hour drive to Seattle, making it a great stop for a burgeoning underground scene that’s ripe with DIY punk and creative approaches to every facet of music making. Visit Olympia to get inspired.
